/ Andrianavalomahefa, Arnaud (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Daumiller, Kai (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Döbrich, Babette (CERN) ; Engel, Ralph (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Jaeckel, Joeg (U. Heidelberg, ITP) ; Kowalski, Marek (Humboldt U., Berlin ; DESY, Zeuthen) ; Lindner, Axel (DESY, Zeuthen) ; Mathes, Hermann-Josef (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Redondo, Javier (Zaragoza U.) ; Roth, Markus (KIT, Karlsruhe) et al.
An additional U(1) symmetry predicted in theories beyond the Standard Model of particle physics can give rise to hidden (dark) photons. Depending on the mass and density of these hidden photons, they could account for a large fraction of the Dark Matter observed in the Universe. [...]

$MCE_{Q}$ - numerical code for inclusive lepton flux calculations
/ Fedynitch, Anatoli (KIT, Karlsruhe ; CERN) ; Engel, Ralph (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Gaisser, Thomas K (Delaware U., Bartol Inst.) ; Riehn, Felix (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Stanev, Todorov (Delaware U., Bartol Inst.)
Calculations of atmospheric lepton spectra at very high energy experience a revived interest after
the detection of the diffuse astrophysical neutrino flux by the IceCube observatory. In order
to determine its spectral index and normalization with higher accuracy, the uncertainties of the
atmospheric background have to modelled correctly and taken into account in the experimental
fits. [...]

A new version of the event generator Sibyll
/ Riehn, Felix (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Engel, Ralph (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Fedynitch, Anatoli (KIT, Karlsruhe ; CERN) ; Gaisser, Thomas K. (Delaware U., Bartol Inst.) ; Stanev, Todor (Delaware U., Bartol Inst.)
The event generator Sibyll can be used for the simulation of hadronic multiparticle production up to the highest cosmic ray energies. It is optimized for providing an economic description of those aspects of the expected hadronic final states that are needed for the calculation of air showers and atmospheric lepton fluxes. [...]

Search for dark matter in the hidden-photon sector with a large spherical mirror
/ Veberic, Darko (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Daumiller, Kai (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Döbrich, Babette (CERN) ; Engel, Ralph (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Jaeckel, Joerg (U. /FUNK Experiment
If dark matter consists of hidden-sector photons which kinetically mix with regular photons, a tiny oscillating electric-field component is present wherever we have dark matter. In the surface of conducting materials this induces a small probability to emit single photons almost perpendicular to the surface, with the corresponding photon frequency matching the mass of the hidden photons. The strong interaction at the collider and cosmic-rays frontiers
/ d'Enterria, David (CERN) ; Engel, Ralph (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Pierog, Tanguy (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Ostapchenko, Sergey (Norwegian U. Sci. Tech.) ; Werner, Klaus (SUBATECH, Nantes)
First data on inclusive particle production measured in proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are compared to predictions of various hadron-interaction Monte Carlos (QGSJET, EPOS and SIBYLL) used commonly in high-energy cosmic-ray physics. While reasonable overall agreement is found for some of the models, none of them reproduces consistently the sqrt(s) evolution of all the measured observables. [...]

Constraints from the first LHC data on hadronic event generators for ultra-high energy cosmic-ray physics
/ d'Enterria, David (ICREA, Barcelona ; ICC, Barcelona U. ; CERN) ; Engel, Ralph (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Pierog, Tanguy (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Ostapchenko, Sergey (Norwegian U. Sci. Tech. ; SINP, Moscow) ; Werner, Klaus (SUBATECH, Nantes)
The determination of the primary energy and mass of ultra-high-energy cosmic-rays (UHECR) generating extensive air-showers in the Earth's atmosphere, relies on the detailed modeling of hadronic multiparticle production at center-of-mass (c.m.) collision energies up to two orders of magnitude higher than those studied at particle colliders. The first Large Hadron Collider (LHC) data have extended by more than a factor of three the c.m. [...]
