Fabrication and test of LARP technological quadrupole models of TQC series / Bossert, Rodger C (Fermilab) ; Ambrosio, Giorgio (Fermilab) ; Andreev, Nikolai (Fermilab) ; Barzi, Emanuela (Fermilab) ; Chlachidze, Guram (Fermilab) ; Feher, Sandor (Fermilab) ; Kashikhin, Vladimir S (Fermilab) ; Kashikhin, Vadim V (Fermilab) ; Lamm, Michael (Fermilab) ; Nobrega, Alfred (Fermilab) et al.
In support of the development of a large-aperture Nb$_3$Sn superconducting quadrupole for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) luminosity upgrade, several two-layer technological quadrupole models of TQC series with 90 mm aperture and collar-based mechanical structure have been developed at Fermilab in collaboration with LBNL. This paper summarizes the results of fabrication and test of TQC02a, the second TQC model based on RRP Nb3Sn strand, and TQC02b, built with both MJR and RRP strand. [...]

The 16 T dipole development program for FCC and HE-LHC / Schoerling, Daniel (CERN) ; Arbelaez, Diego (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Auchmann, Bernhard (PSI, Villigen) ; Bajko, Marta (CERN) ; Ballarino, Amalia (CERN) ; Barzi, Emanuela (Fermilab) ; Bellomo, Giovanni (INFN, Milan) ; Benedikt, Michael (CERN) ; Izquierdo Bermudez, Susana (CERN) ; Bordini, Bernardo (CERN) et al.
A future circular collider (FCC) with a center-of-mass energy of 100 TeV and a circumference of around 100 km, or an energy upgrade of the LHC (HE-LHC) to 27 TeV require bending magnets providing 16 T in a 50-mm aperture. Several development programs for these magnets, based on Nb$_3$Sn technology, are being pursued in Europe and in the U.S. [...]

Coil manufacturing process of the first 1-m-long Canted–Cosine–Theta (CCT) model magnet at PSI / Montenero, Giuseppe (PSI, Villigen) ; Auchmann, Bernhard (CERN ; PSI, Villigen) ; Arbelaez, Diego (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Brouwer, Lucas (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Caspi, Shlomo (LBNL, Berkeley) ; Felder, Roland (PSI, Villigen) ; Lackner, Friedrich (CERN) ; Sanfilippo, Stephane (PSI, Villigen) ; Sidorov, Serguei (PSI, Villigen) ; Smekens, David (CERN) et al.
At the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), the Canted-Cosine-Theta (CCT) magnet program aims at demonstrating that CCT technology is a viable candidate for the development of 16-T dipole magnets, required for future circular colliders. The first step in this direction is the implementation of a Nb$_3$Sn 1-m-long, two-layer CCT single-aperture dipole, referred to as Canted Dipole One (CD1), which is designed to achieve a peak field in the bore of ~11 T. Mechanical Structure for the PSI Canted-Cosine-Theta (CCT) Magnet Program / Montenero, Giuseppe (PSI, Villigen) ; Auchmann, Bernhard (CERN) ; Brouwer, Lucas (LBL, Berkeley) ; Calzolaio, Ciro (PSI, Villigen) ; Caspi, Shlomo (LBL, Berkeley) ; Rolando, Gabriella (PSI, Villigen) ; Sanfilippo, Stephane (PSI, Villigen)
Abstract: The Canted-Cosine-Theta (CCT) technology has the potential, by its intrinsic stress-management, to lower coil stresses in high-field accelerator magnets. This is especially relevant for Nb3Sn magnets, which may be subject to irreversible degradation if the coil stresses exceed critical values. [...]

A high field Nb3Al common coil magnet is under development as an R&D; of "Advanced Superconducting Magnets for the LHC Luminosity Upgrade", in the framework of the CERN-KEK cooperation program. The goal of this research is to demonstrate the feasibility of high field magnet wound with Nb3Al cable. [...]

Status of the 16 T Dipole Development Program for a Future Hadron Collider / Tommasini, Davide (CERN) ; Arbelaez, Diego (LBL, Berkeley) ; Auchmann, Bernhard (CERN) ; Bajas, Hugues (CERN) ; Bajko, Marta (CERN) ; Ballarino, Amalia (CERN) ; Barzi, Emanuela (Fermilab) ; Bellomo, Giovanni (INFN, Milan) ; Benedikt, Michael (CERN) ; Izquierdo Bermudez, Susana (CERN) et al.
A next step of energy increase of hadron colliders beyond the LHC requires high-field superconducting magnets capable of providing a dipolar field in the range of 16 T in a 50-mm aperture with accelerator quality. These characteristics could meet the requirements for an upgrade of the LHC to twice the present beam energy or for a 100-TeV center of mass energy future circular collider. [...]

Electromechanical Design of a 16-T CCT Twin-Aperture Dipole for FCC / Auchmann, Bernhard (CERN) ; Brouwer, Lucas (LBL, Berkeley) ; Caspi, Shlomo (LBL, Berkeley) ; Gao, Jiani (PSI, Villigen) ; Montenero, Giuseppe (PSI, Villigen) ; Negrazus, Marco (PSI, Villigen) ; Rolando, Gabriella (CERN) ; Sanfilippo, Stéphane (PSI, Villigen)
Canted-cosine-theta (CCT) technology has been studied for its suitability for a future-circular-collider (FCC) main dipole in terms of magnetic and mechanical performance, electrothermal protectability, as well as efficiency. In this paper, we present lessons learnt from our search for efficient CCT solutions by means of two-dimensional (2-D) magnetic and mechanical simulations, discuss the 3-D periodic mechanical model, as well as 3-D electromagnetic analysis of the end regions. A four-layer canted-cosine-theta 16-T dipole has been designed as a possible candidate for future hadron colliders. The design maintains part of the future-circular-collider magnet requirements, i.e., a 50 mm clear bore and 16 T operating at 1.9 K. [...]
