Transient finite-element simulations of fast-ramping muon-collider magnets / Moll, Dominik (Darmstadt, Tech. U.) ; Boattini, Fulvio (CERN) ; De Gersem, Herbert (Darmstadt, Tech. U.) ; Christmann, Jan-Magnus (Darmstadt, Tech. U.) ; D'Angelo, Laura (Darmstadt, Tech. U.) ; Bottura, Luca (CERN) ; Breschi, Marco (Bologna U.)
Conceptual studies for a muon collider identify fast-ramping magnets as a major design challenge. Rise rates of more than 1 T/ms are attainable with normal-conducting magnets, incorporating iron yokes to make sure that stored magnetic energies and inductances stay below reasonable thresholds. [...]

Cover not available Interim report for the International Muon Collider Collaboration / Accettura, C.
The International Muon Collider Collaboration (IMCC) [1] was established in 2020 following the recommendations of the European Strategy for Particle Physics (ESPP) and the implementation of the European Strategy for Particle Physics-Accelerator R&D Roadmap by the Laboratory Directors Group [2], [...]

Magnets for a Muon Collider—Needs and Plans / Bottura, L (CERN) ; Accettura, C (CERN) ; Amemiya, N (Kyoto U.) ; Auchmann, B (PSI, Villigen) ; Berg, J S (Brookhaven Natl. We describe the magnet challenges for a Muon Collider, an exciting option considered for the future of particle physics at the energy frontier. Starting from the comprehensive work performed by the US Muon Accelerator Program, we have reviewed the performance specifications dictated by beam physics and the operating conditions to satisfy the accelerator needs. Comparative Analysis of Resistive Dipole Accelerator Magnets for a Muon Collider / Breschi, M (U. Bologna (main)) ; Cavallucci, L (U. Bologna (main)) ; Miceli, R (U. Bologna (main)) ; Ribani, P L (U. Bologna (main)) ; Bottura, L (CERN) ; Boattini, F (CERN) ; Fabbri, S (CERN) ; Gersem, H De (Darmstadt, Tech. U.)
This work focuses on the design of resistive dipole accelerator magnets for the Muon Collider accelerator under study in the frame of the International Muon Collider Cooperation (IMCC) and with the participation of the European Union (MuCol program). The design specifications require that these dipoles are subjected to very fast ramps, with ramp times in the range from 1 ms to 10 ms. [...]

A muon collider would enable the big jump ahead in energy reach that is needed for a fruitful exploration of fundamental interactions. The challenges of producing muon collisions at high luminosity and 10 TeV centre of mass energy are being investigated by the recently-formed International Muon Collider Collaboration. [...]

Performance tests of ITER CS conductor samples from series production / Breschi, M (Bologna U.) ; Devred, A (CERN) ; Macioce, D (Euratom, St. Paul Lez Durance) ; Mitchell, N (Euratom, St. Paul Lez Durance)
The International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) magnet system is one of the most sophisticated superconducting magnet systems ever designed, with a stored energy of 51 GJ. The coils are wound from cable-in-conduit conductors made of superconducting and copper strands assembled into a multistage rope-type cable, inserted into a conduit of austenitic steel tubes. [...]

Tests of General Relativity with GWTC-3 / LIGO Scientific Collaboration
The ever-increasing number of detections of gravitational waves (GWs) from compact binaries by the Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo detectors allows us to perform ever-more sensitive tests of general relativity (GR) in the dynamical and strong-field regime of gravity. [...]

Search for Subsolar-Mass Binaries in the First Half of Advanced LIGO’s and Advanced Virgo’s Third Observing Run / LIGO Scientific Collaboration
We report on a search for compact binary coalescences where at least one binary component has a mass between 0.2 $M_\odot$ and 1.0 $M_\odot$ in Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo data collected between 1 April 2019 1500 UTC and 1 October 2019 1500 UTC. We extend previous analyses in two main ways: we include data from the Virgo detector and we allow for more unequal mass systems, with mass ratio $q \geq 0.1$. [...]

Degradation of performance in superconducting magnets can be a major concern when a brittle material like Nb3Sn is employed. Indeed, degradation can significantly alter the transport properties of a cable if, e.g. [...]
