Utopia Theory: the physics of society / Philip Ball (speaker)
Human society is arguably the most complex system we know of – populated by entities that can adapt, learn, self-organize and show completely different responses to apparently identical stimuli. One might reasonably wonder whether society exhibits a qualitatively different kind of complexity from that found in inanimate matter. [...]

B, D and K decays : report of Working Group 2 [on Flavour in the Era of the LHC] / Buchalla, G. (LMU Munich (main)) ; Komatsubara, T.K. (Sokendai, Tsukuba) ; Muheim, F. With the advent of the LHC, we will be able to probe New Physics (NP) up to energy scales almost one order of magnitude larger than it has been possible with present accelerator facilities. While direct detection of new particles will be the main avenue to establish the presence of NP at the LHC, indirect searches will provide precious complementary information, since most probably it will not be possible to measure the full spectrum of new particles and their couplings through direct production. Book cover SuperB : A High-Luminosity Asymmetric $e^+ e^-$ Super Flavour Factory : Conceptual Design Report / Bona, M.
The physics objectives of SuperB, an asymmetric electron-positron collider with a luminosity above 10^36/cm^2/s are described, together with the conceptual design of a novel low emittance design that achieves this performance with wallplug power comparable to that of the current B Factories, and an [...]

Probing New Physics through B Mixing: Status, Benchmarks and Prospects / Ball, P (IPPP Durham, UK ; CERN) ; Fleischer, Robert (CERN)
As is well known, $B^0_{d,s}$--$\bar B^0_{d,s}$ mixing offers a profound probe into the effects of physics beyond the Standard Model. The data obtained at the $e^+e^-$ $B$ factories have already provided valuable insights into the $B_d$-meson system, and very recently also the $B^0_s$--$\bar B^0_s$ oscillation frequency $\Delta M_s$ has been measured at the Tevatron. $|V_{td}/V_{ts}|$ from $B\to V \gamma$ / Ball, Patricia (Durham U., IPPP ; CERN) ; Zwicky, Roman (Durham U., IPPP)
The dominant theoretical uncertainty in extracting |V_td/V_ts| from the ratio of branching ratios R=B(B->(rho,omega)gamma)/B(B->K* gamma) is given by the ratio of form factors xi=T_1^{B->K*}(0)/T_1^{B->rho}(0). We re-examine xi in the framework of QCD sum rules on the light-cone, taking into account hitherto neglected SU(3)-breaking effects. [...]

Higher-Twist Distribution Amplitudes of the K Meson in QCD / Ball, P (CERN) ; Braun, V M ; Lenz, A
We present a systematic study of twist-3 and twist-4 light-cone distribution amplitudes of the K meson in QCD. The structure of SU(3)-breaking corrections is studied in detail. [...]

Improved Analysis of $B\to \pi e \nu$ from QCD Sum Rules on the Light-Cone / Ball, Patricia (CERN ; Durham U., IPPP) ; Zwicky, Roman (Zurich U. ; CERN)
We present a new calculation of the B->pi form-factor f_+, relevant for the measurement of |V_{ub}| from semileptonic B->pi transitions, from QCD sum rules on the light-cone. The new element is the calculation of radiative corrections to next-to-leading twist-3 accuracy. [...]

A Note on Wandzura-Wilczek Relations / Ball, Patricia (Durham U. ; CERN) ; Lazar, Markus (Leipzig U.)
Wandzura-Wilczek (WW) relations between matrix-elements of bilocal light-ray operators have recently regained interest in connection with off-forward scattering processes. Originally derived for matrix elements over leading-twist operators, their generalization to off-forward and exclusive processes gets complicated by the presence of higher-twist operators that are total derivatives of leading-twist ones and do not contribute to forward-scattering.
