CompactLight is a Design Study funded by the European Union under theHorizon 2020 research and innovation funding programme, with Grant Agreement No. 777431.CompactLight was conducted by an International Collaboration of 23 internationallaboratories and academic institutions, three private companies, and five third parties. The project, which started in January 2018 with a duration of 48 months, aimed to designan innovative, compact, and cost-effective hard X-ray FEL facility complemented by asoft X-ray source to pave the road for future compact accelerator-based facilities. Powerful ERL for experiments (PERLE) is a novel energy recovery linac (ERL) test facility [1], designed to validate choices for a 50 GeV ERL foreseen in the design of the Large Hadron Electron Collider and the Future Circular Collider and to host dedicated nuclear and particle physics experiments. Its main goal is to demonstrate the high current, continuous wave, multipass operation with superconducting cavities at 802 MHz. [...]

Hosing of a long relativistic particle bunch in plasma / AWAKE Collaboration
Experimental results show that hosing of a long particle bunch in plasma can be induced by wakefields driven by a short, misaligned preceding bunch. Hosing develops in the plane of misalignment, self-modulation in the perpendicular plane, at frequencies close to the plasma electron frequency, and are reproducible. [...]

Filamentation of a Relativistic Proton Bunch in Plasma / AWAKE Collaboration
We show in experiments that a long, underdense, relativistic proton bunch propagating in plasma undergoes the oblique instability, that we observe as filamentation. We determine a threshold value for the ratio between the bunch transverse size and plasma skin depth for the instability to occur. [...]

Development of the Self-Modulation Instability of a Relativistic Proton Bunch in Plasma / AWAKE Collaboration
Self-modulation is a beam-plasma instability that is useful to drive large-amplitude wakefields with bunches much longer than the plasma skin depth. We present experimental results showing that, when increasing the ratio between the initial transverse size of the bunch and the plasma skin depth, the instability occurs later along the bunch, or not at all, over a fixed plasma length, because the amplitude of the initial wakefields decreases. [...]

Minimising Transverse Multipoles in Accelerating RF Cavities via Azimuthally Modulated Designs / Wroe, Laurence (JAI, UK) ; Apsimon, Robert (Lancaster U. (main)) ; Dosanjh, Manjit (CERN) ; Sheehy, Suzanne (Melbourne U.)
In this paper, we build upon previous work of designing RF structures that support modes with tailored multipolar fields by applying the concept to negate the transverse multipoles in accelerating RF cavities caused by the incorporation of waveguide slots and tuning deformations. We outline a systematic method for designing structures that minimise these transverse multipoles and present analysis of simulations of two different minimisation designs..
