Simulations of single-particle tracking involving collimation systems need dedicated tools to perform the different tasks needed. These include the accurate description of particle-matter interactions when a tracked particle impacts a collimator jaw; a detailed aperture model to identify the longitudinal location of losses; and others. The collimation system for the hadron Future Circular Collider (FCC-hh) must handle proton beams with an unprecedented nominal beam energy and stored beam energy in excess of 8 GJ, and protect the superconducting magnets and other sensitive equipment while ensuring a high operational efficiency. The recent development of the 16-dipole lattice baseline for the FCC-hh, and the associated layout changes, has necessitated an adaptation of the collimation system. [...]

Collimation of 400 MJ Beams at the LHC: The First Step Towards the HL-LHC Era / Redaelli, Stefano (CERN) ; Abramov, Andrey (CERN) ; Baillard, Dylan (CERN) ; Bruce, Roderik (CERN) ; Cai, Rongrong (CERN ; Ecole Polytechnique, Lausanne) ; Carra, Federico (CERN) ; D'Andrea, Marco (CERN) ; Di Castro, Mario (CERN) ; Giacomel, Lorenzo (CERN) ; Hermes, Pascal (CERN) et al.
An important upgrade programme is planned for the collimation system of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in order to meet the challenges of the upcoming High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) project. A first stage of the HL-LHC upgrade was already deployed during the last LHC Long Shutdown, offering important improvements of the collimation cleaning, a significant reduction of the impedance contribution and better cleaning of collisional debris, in particular for ion-ion collisions. The Future Circular Collider electron-positron (FCC-ee) is a proposed high-energy lepton collider that aims to reach unprecedented precision in the measurements of fundamental particles. Several beam related processes produce particles in the Machine-Detector Interface (MDI) region, which can adversely affect the measurements’ accuracy. [...]

The collimation system of the Future Circular Collider, operating with leptons (FCC-ee), must protect not only theexperiments against backgrounds, but also the machine itself frombeam losses. With a 17.8 MJ stored energy of the electron andpositron beams, they are highly destructive, and beam losses risk tocause damage or a quench of superconducting elements. [...]

Within the framework of the Future Circular Collider Feasibility and Design Study, the design of the electron-positron collider FCC-ee is being optimised, as a possible future double collider ring, currently foreseen to start operation during the 2040s. FCC-ee is designed to operate at four different energy stages, allowing for precision measurements: from the Z-pole up to above the ttbar-threshold. [...]

Characterization of bent crystals for beam collimation with 6.8 TeV proton beams at the LHC / D'Andrea, Marco (CERN) ; Aberle, Oliver (CERN) ; Abramov, Andrey (CERN) ; Bandiera, Laura (INFN, Ferrara) ; Bruce, Roderik (CERN) ; Cai, Rongrong (CERN ; EPFL-ISIC, Lausanne) ; Calviani, Marco (CERN) ; Demassieux, Quentin (CERN) ; Dewhurst, Kay Alana (CERN) ; Di Castro, Mario (CERN) et al.
The concept of crystal collimation exploits the peculiar properties of crystalline materials to deflect high-energy beam particles at angles orders of magnitude larger than what can be achieved with scattering by conventional materials used as primary collimators. This innovative technique is planned to be used to improve the collimation efficiency with heavy-ion beams at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and its High-Luminosity upgrade (HL-LHC). [...]
