Coachman ran as a Republican for lieutenant governor of North Dakota on a joint ticket with lieutenant gubernatorial candidate Paul Sorum (R) in 2016.[3] The two were defeated in the primary election.

2012
Coachman was the running mate of gubernatorial candidate Paul Sorum.[4] The general election took place on November 6, 2012. In the general election in November, they faced Republican incumbents Jack Dalrymple & Drew Wrigley, Ryan Taylor & Ellen Chaffee (D) and Roland Riemers & Anthony Johns (independent nomination).[5] They were defeated by incumbents Dalrymple and Wrigley.[5]
