I have tried so many of these splatter screens. it's insane. Sure they all mostly did the job. However, they are not as sturdy as this one and they rusted and got gross after a couple uses and washes. I have had this one for a little while now and used it everytime I cooked with grease. It has remained in good condition so far. It is also perfect for easily straining out the grease or water from a pan or pot. Best part is you really can't go wrong... it has a lifetime warranty. Yes, you heard that right!

    This splatter screen is of excellent quality - much better than my other two, one of which I threw in the trash as soon as this one arrived.
    This one is 13 inches across, outside rim to outside rim. Inside rim to inside rim (the mesh screen in other words) is 12 1/2 inches. The total length if you include the handle is 18 inches. Standing on its little "feet" on the counter top, it is a hair under 3/4" high. I'd call it 11/16".
    I have a 12" cast iron skillet and this covers it completely - a perfect fit, whereas my other two screens were a shade too small and would sit down IN the skillet. The mesh on this is not a soft screen like my other two, which ended up with little rips in them. This one is very strong, heavy duty screen and tight weave, so as not to let anything pop out of the skillet. I am a PRIME member, and this screen did arrive in two days.
    To use ANY splatter screen to strain would be a bit awkward, I would think, if your pot or skillet is very heavy. I guess you could hold the handle-less side of it with a silicone mitt or silicone pot holder, since it would probably get wet. This splatter screen would be easier to strain with than my other two since it is stronger, more heavy duty, and less likely to bend and slip and slide. So if using a splatter screen works well for you as a strainer, then I am sure this one would work as well or better than less sturdy ones.
    I would and WILL recommend this splatter screen to friends and family. Also, the folks at LiveFresh are very friendly and helpful, and respond incredibly fast to questions. I would not hesitate to buy more products from them.
    UPDATE OCTOBER 2017 I have now been using this splatter screen for almost a year and 9 months. As I was using it this evening, I was again reminded of how excellent the quality is, and I decided to post an update review. Unlike other splatter screens I have had in the past, this one is still in PERFECT condition. The screen is not separating from the rim anywhere, nor are there any little tears in the screen. I can run my dish cloth over every inch of it and around the rim without worrying that it is going to snag and ruin my dishcloth. This is truly a quality piece of equipment that needs to be in every kitchen where food is cooked in a skillet! I use it on my much-loved 10 and 12 inch cast iron skillets (the only kind of skillets I use!). I believe I will start including one of these in wedding gifts! I can't recommend it highly enough! (Also, the price now is $14.95 - several dollars LESS than I paid for it over a year and a half ago!!)

    I postponed reviewing this for a while, as I wanted to get at least 10-15 uses before doing do. I used it to stop and/or reduce splatter from foods such as chicken, bacon, and pork chops. It proved to be a good, solid screen that cleaned up easily, both in the dishwasher and by hand.

    There was a slight cosmetic defect (a small dent in the screen) but it was minor and did not affect performance. The screen did not stop splatter entirely (nothing short of a lid will) but greatly reduced the grease that ends up on the stove. It fit different sizes of pans well, although slid a little bit when I used it on my largest pan. I simply readjusted it and all was well. The handle stayed cool to the touch no matter how long I had it on the pan.

    In short, for the price this is an excellent splatter screen. It's sturdy, greatly reduced splatter, and cleaned up quickly and easily.

    We use this for our grill pan. It's not made for a grill pan - it doesn't cover the whole thing. Which is fine, I'm sure it's not made specifically for that. It's of great quality and I like the handle and the little stand that's build onto it. One star off because it doesn't stop tall of the grease from splattering everywhere. It just equates to a lot less clean up, but there's still clean up.

So often there isn't a good choice available, leaving me to select the least undesirable model. Sometimes it's difficult to trust the reviews of a product because they are too glowing or half the reviewers love it and the other half hates it. Well, nobody paid me to say I liked this product. It stands up on its own. It was worth the money.

    My reviews are typically very brutal and negative, this product deserves to be treated as if it were on a pedestal !

    I used this screen twice a day cooking steak at very high heat with grape seed oil, in fact I wait for the oil to start smoking.

    This screen is heavy duty, has feet built into the frame and actually stops 98% of the oil from splattering. All the other screens I have used last about 1 to 2 months before they warp and separate from their frame, that is when I bend them in half and throw them away.

    I put it in the dishwasher and it cleans up beautifully. It is a little pricey....worth every dollar. You get what you pay for !!!!!

    Wir sind sehr froh, etwas mehr Geld ausgegeben zu haben für diesen Spritzschutz. Die Füße sind super und unverzichtbar, alles bleibt sauber. Dank der Größe passt das Gitter überall drauf, selbst auf die größte Pfanne. Und es spritzt tatsächlich kaum etwas umher. Mehr Spritzschutz geht eigentlich nicht mehr, außer eben dann ein richtiger Deckel. Die Reinigung geht auch super mit dem Lappen /Schwamm, weil keine Kanten und Ecken da sind, wie bei günstigen Gittern. In die Spüli passt es nur schräg weil sonst zu hoch, wobei ich es lieber per Hand reinige. Das Gitter ist sehr stabil und ich bin guter Hoffnung, dass die nächsten Jahre zufriedene gemeinsame Jahre werden. ;-)

    This item was delivered unusually swiftly which was a pleasant surprise even though I was in no great rush. As a keen wok user, I am particularly picky over spatter shields and have found almost all the mesh variety to be too light, flimsy and poorly-constructed with feeble frames which warp in the heat and fail soon after. IKEA sells a good quality stainless steel mesh shield but that suffers from the lack of a handle and is more of a mesh lid-styled cover. Solid perforated metal ones would appear to be the answer but they don't allow enough steam to escape -- the condensate then drips back into the hot pan resulting in even more splatter when you lift the shield. They are also awkward to handle and completely opaque.

    This particular screen is satisfyingly sturdy and of visibly higher quality than the usual suspects. It is the only one in my experience that doesn't flex in the slightest when picked up. The fact that its 5mm thick stainless steel handle is spot-welded at four places around its 7.3mm thick SS circumference probably accounts for its resistance to bending and deforming. The mesh itself appears to be of a thicker gauge than usual and is see-through enough to let me keep an eye on proceedings. This screen weighs about 320gm, my IKEA 177gm and a good run-of-the-mill shield which I also own weighs about 110gm. All claim to be made of stainless steels and are 33 cm in diameter.

    In use the LiveFresh shield sat firmly on the rim of the pan and was a pleasure to handle, being strong enough to rest a plate or utensils on while cooking. Lesser shields would warp but this one does take the extra weight. Its 'feet' feature worked as advertised. As with all shields some spatter will inevitably be propelled through any mesh however fine but this can be easily mitigated by sliding a piece of kitchen tissue under the handle supports and over the mesh. It cleans easily enough with hot soapy water and a brush.

    So all-in-all an impressively well-designed kitchen aid that most would take for granted. I haven't owned it long enough to comment on wear and tear issues but for now, a well-deserved 5 stars.
