•II Kings 16 (first mentioned)

•The word Jew means: a Jehudite(i.e. Judaite or Jew), or descendantof Jehudah (i.e. Judah)

•Yehuwdah (yeh-hoo-daw‘)celebrated; Jehudah (or Judah), alsoof the tribe descended from the first,and of its territory:

•Jesus was a Jew (Jn 4:9)

The Jewish People

•Mordecai, of Benjamin, wasconsidered a Jew (Es. 2:5)

•We can see the term Jeweventually extended to allIsraelites.

Gentiles

•Gentile means a Hellen (Grecian) orinhabitant of Hellas; by extension aGreek-speaking person, especially a non-Jew:

• That would mean even the Samarianswould be considered Gentiles.

•Therefore, people are either Jews orGentiles

The New Testament Church

•A people who are neither Jew norGreek

•Gal 3:28-29 There is neither Jew norGreek, there is neither bond nor free,there is neither male nor female: forye are all one in Christ Jesus. And ifye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham'sseed, and heirs according to thepromise.

A Great Nation

•Gen 12:1-3 Now the LORD had said untoAbram, Get thee out of thy country, andfrom thy kindred, and from thy father'shouse, unto a land that I will shew thee:And I will make of thee a great nation, andI will bless thee, and make thy name great;and thou shalt be a blessing: And I willbless them that bless thee, and curse himthat curseth thee: and in thee shall allfamilies of the earth be blessed.

Abraham

•The promise of God to Abraham and hisseed.

•Abraham had more children than Issac(Gen. 25:1-2)

•Therefore Israelites are descendants fromAbraham through Issac.

•Issac had two sons (Esau and Jacob), soonly through Jacob come Israelites.

•Jacob named was changed to Israel: Aprince with power with God.

•Not all descendants of Abraham areIsraelites.

Adoption

•Rom 9:4-8 Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineththe adoption, and the glory, and the covenants,and the giving of the law, and the service of God,and the promises; Whose are the fathers, and ofwhom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who isover all, God blessed for ever. Amen. Not asthough the word of God hath taken none effect.For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham,are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seedbe called. That is, They which are the children ofthe flesh, these are not the children of God: but thechildren of the promise are counted for the seed.
